The definitions below describe the controls and functions
of the Engine/Generator Control Panel (Figure 4).
1. Gauge Unit Assembly — This assembly houses the
various engine monitoring gauges. These gauges
indicate: oil pressure, water temperature, charging
voltmeter, fuel and engine speed RPM (tachometer).
A. Oil Pressure Gauge — During normal operation
this gauge should read approximately 50 psi. (345
kPa). When starting the generator the oil pressure
may read a little higher, but after the engine warms
up the oil pressure should return to the correct
pressure range.
B. Water Temperature Gauge — During normal
operation this gauge should read approximately
180°F (82°C).
C. — During normal
operation this gauge indicate minimum 14 VDC.
D. Fuel Gauge — Indicates amount of diesel fuel
available.
E. Tachometer Gauge — Indicates engine speed.
This guage should indicate 1,000 rpm's when the
engine speed switch is placed in the low position.
1800 RPM’s when the engine speed switch is
placed in the high position (60 Hz operation).
F. — When on,
indicates that the engine oil pressure has dropped
to 14.2 psi (98 kPa). This condition will cause the
engine to shutdown.
G. — When on,
indicates that the engine coolant has exceeded
212°F (100°C). This condition will cause the engine
to shutdown.
H. — When on, indicates
that the generator has attempted to start and failed
after 3 attempts. The intervals between the 3 start
cycles is approximately 10 seconds.
I. — When on, indicates that the
engine is operating at an unsafe speed. This
condition will cause the engine to shutdown.
J. — When on, indicates
that the generator is operating normally.
2. — This three-pole, 110 amp
main breaker is provided to protect the
from overload.
3. — When activated will turn on
control panel light.
4. — For operation at night, panel light
illuminates control panel for ease of reading meters
and gauges. Make sure panel light switch is in the OFF
position when light is not in use.
5. — Allows ±15% manual
adjustment of the generator’s output voltage.
6. — This switch allows
the AC ammeter to indicate the current flowing to the load
connected to any phase of the output terminals, or to be
switched off. This switch does not effect the generator
output in any fashion, it is for current reading only.
7. — This switch allows
the AC voltmeter to indicate phase to phase voltage
between any two phases of the output terminals or to
be switched off.
8. — Indicates the output frequency
in hertz (Hz). Normally 60 Hz.
9. AC Ammeter — Indicates the amount of current the
load is drawing from the generator per leg selected by
the ammeter phase-selector switch.
10. — Indicates the output voltage present
at the
11. — This lamp when
ON indicates that fluids in the containment area have
reach a high level.
12. — This lamp will turn on
when an engine fault has occured. Refered to engine
fault diagnostics table.
13. — Indicates amount of time generator
has been in use.
14. — This lamp will illuminate to indicate
preheating of the engine glow plugs. When the lamp
turns off, this indicates that the preheat cycle is
complete and the engine will start automatically.
15. — This switch selects either manual
or automatic operation . Center position is OFF (reset).
16. Engine Speed Switch — This switch controls the
speed of the engine (low/high).
